KILLAM HUNTING KENNELS

Laredo, Texas

The proposed kennel structure tightly wraps around the existing residence and is designed to provide covered, outdoor shelter for up to seven hunting dogs with smaller conditioned shelter and bathing utilities. Access to the kennels is through an existing exterior patio door leading from the main residence to the Saltillo tile walkway connection. Materials were carefully selected to respond to existing, adjacent structure. Simple, elegantly detailed wood roof structure allows for suspended lighting and ceiling fans to increase exterior circulation. A combination of standing-seam metal roofing and wood trellis structures provide shelter from the summer heat. The warm-colored Saltillo tile seamlessly extends from exterior walkways into the interior shelter for continuity and ease of maintenance. Existing trees have been preserved and provide essential shade to the hunting dogs while xeriscaping is employed to soften the small spaces separating the kennel from the main residence.
